Knowledge Groups allow you to organise your content into meaningful sections so that the AI tutor can give students more accurate, context-specific answers.
Think of each Knowledge Group as a container for related documents. Grouping your materials this way helps:
- Keep content manageable
- Ensure learners receive answers from the most relevant source
- Improve the precision of the tutor’s responses

📚 Example Use Cases
You might create separate Knowledge Groups for:
- “Course Handbook”
- “Lab Guidelines”
- “Assessment FAQs”
When a student asks a question, the AI tutor checks within the most relevant Knowledge Group to respond accurately — instead of searching across everything.
Display Name vs Topic
When creating a Knowledge Group, you’ll fill in two fields: Display Name and Topic.
These serve different purposes and work together to guide both the learner experience and how the AI retrieves answers.
- Display Name
- This is the name that Learners will see in the chat interface.
- It should be clear and friendly, e.g. “Course Handbook” or “Assessment Guidelines.”
- It helps students recognise which area the information comes from if shown in menus or labels.
- Topic
- This is the internal reference the system uses for retrieval.
- It should be short, specific, and descriptive, like a keyword.
- The Topic influences how the bot decides which Knowledge Group to draw from when answering a question, so it’s best to keep it closely aligned to the subject matter of the group.
- Example: = Display Name = "Week 1", Topic = "macroeconomics”.
👉 In short:
- Display Name = What learners see.
