Go to the Exercises Tab
Access the Role Play section via the sidebar or by switching tabs in the Exercises page.
Click on [Create Role Play] or [Add Role Play]
This opens the role play setup wizard.
Describe the AI Assistant role
Define the persona the AI will take during the role play. (e.g., “A frustrated customer,” “A job interviewer,” “A patient at a clinic”)
Describe the Learner role
Specify the learner’s role in the scenario. (e.g., “Customer support agent,” “Job applicant,” “Healthcare professional”)
Describe the Scenario Description
Set the context and objective for the role play interaction. This section is key to shaping how the AI Assistant will engage with the learner throughout the conversation. You can either write your own description or use [AI Assist] to help generate a draft based on the roles you’ve defined.
This scenario description acts as the instruction set that guides the AI’s behavior — including tone, style, pacing, and intent. Be as specific as possible. You might include:
- The purpose of the interaction (e.g., to assess, to simulate, to persuade)
- Desired tone or communication style (e.g., formal, friendly, urgent, supportive)
- Any specific behavior the AI should follow (e.g., ask open-ended questions, provide hints before correcting, avoid giving away answers)

You can also use [Link Document(s)] to attach reference materials that the AI must use. For example, if the assistant needs to generate follow-up questions based on a reading, link the relevant document.

Example:
The Assistant is a supportive coach helping a learner prepare for a team presentation. Speak in an encouraging and constructive tone. Begin by asking the learner what their main challenges are. Use [Presentation Skills Guide.docx] to reference common best practices, and generate tips and questions accordingly.
Set Skills Assessment Criteria
The Skills Assessment section allows you to evaluate how well learners perform during the role play. This is useful for providing structured feedback and tracking progress based on specific competencies.
There are 3 key parts to the setting up the assessment criteria

Assessment Criteria
Define the skill or competency you want to assess. These should align with the goals of the role play. (Examples: Clarity of Communication, Accuracy of Information, Problem-Solving Ability, Empathy.)

Description of the Criteria
Provide a short explanation of what each skill means in the context of the role play. This helps the AI Assistant evaluate consistently and provide targeted feedback.
Example: “Clarity of Communication – How clearly the learner expresses their thoughts, including proper structure and choice of words.”

Score (Optional)
You can assign a maximum score to each criterion (e.g., out of 5 or 10). If left blank, the AI will assess the skill qualitatively without a numeric score.
Custom Avatars for Each Role Play
You can choose a different avatar for every role play to make your learning experience more engaging and realistic. Each avatar can represent a specific character or scenario—such as a customer, student, interviewer, or patient—so you can tailor the interaction to match your training needs. Simply go to your role play settings, select avatar or Add Custom Avatar.
